WINNER of the 2016 Excellence in Innovation Award
Presented of the Gunnedah Chamber of Commerce.
Stewart Surveys has been in business in Gunnedah for 31 years. The business has always been at the forefront of emerging technologies in the surveying industry. Country surveyors face different challenges to city surveyors due to isolation and we have to cover larger areas and distances. Stewart Surveys has always seen the advantages of technological advances. In the 1990’s total station instruments with electronic distance measuring and data capture were introduced. This allowed surveys of broadacre agriculture, infrastructure and highway surveys covering up to 100 kilometres. In the early 2000’s we were one of the first survey firms in the northwest to purchase GPS equipment. This opened more opportunities for the business to efficiently undertake a range of surveys including for the mining industry.
Stewart Surveys adopted the Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) when it was just an emerging technology in September 2013. We were one of the first firms in NSW to purchase the German made Mavinci Sirius UAS. The commercial use of this instrument required Lincoln Stewart to obtain his private pilots licence (theoretical) and CASA accreditation as an unmanned vehicle controller. It also required an extensive operation manual to be approved by CASA.
The business has always been at the forefront of emerging technologies in the surveying industry.
Being able to offer this service to our existing clients in Gunnedah allows them access to the latest advances in surveying technology. This has also resulted in new work with new clients throughout NSW.
We now progress to the New England North West regional awards presented on the 30 September 2016.
